My Dive Log: Advanced Open Water

Was away from home and landed to the beautiful island of Tioman.
Away from home for a good 10 days.
Despite the emotional strikes from everyone's faces.
It was overall a good one I must say.
Although not everything goes as smooth as I thought,
regardless the bomb that drops right on my face before we depart to Subang Airport,
we almost just watch our plane flew off before us, rubbish right?
Ya, I guess that was the most stupid thing I have ever neglected.
But NO! We managed to reach before the plane bit us goodbye.
There are certain things which I do not wish to spill here.
Everyone has their own piece of mind anyway, pointless.

Tagged along in the trip was Ryan, Mindy, Keong, Wesley & Vincs and Bei.
So yea, we reached Tioman Island about 9.30 in the morning.
Took a speed boat from the airport to our destined place, Air Batang Beach.
Air Batang Beach also known as ABC Beach.
Thats wat they call it, in short.

The jetty which connects us to ABC Beach to some other islands nearby.

 Tioman info centre.

View from different sides of the beach.

We rented a chalet which contains a room with 2 double beds and an
additional mattress, a kitchen, a balcony and a bath room.
It cost us RM140 per night. We slept there for 5 nights. Do the maths.
The chalet was cozy enough for the 7 of us to lodge in just for sleeps.

This is how the chalet looks like. Nothing much.

Took our very first breakfast at the restaurant beside our dive centre.
The nasi lemak rocks! The price wasn't too exp, reasonable I think.

Our dive centre. ECO DIVERS.

Since our main intention was to dive there,
I wouldn't want to add some irrelevant information here.
Mindy and Ryan were both taking their very first Open Water course,
while for Jacky and I, we were there to further our Open Water to Advanced Open Water.

The Open Water course costs RM1050/person
as for the Advanced its RM880/person
Additional RM110 per fun dive if you want to do any.
Imagine how much they earned from us four already. Damn!

For more information in taking up the courses from Eco Divers,

or you can ask me if you want.

My first dive in my Advanced Open Water module was Wreck Dive in Marine Park.
You can actually select 3 dives of your choices and wreck dive was my first.
Together with night dive and peak performance buoyancy.
And another 2 compulsory dives were Navigation dive and Deep dive.

We didn't manage to capture any wreck dives pictures as we were having problems
handling the underwater camera charger. Too bad.
But I must say wreck dive was the best I've ever been to.
It was so cool to be up close and personal with a Thai sunken boat in 18m of depth.
And another one in Sipadan near Sawadee Wreck, 29m of depth,
was the latest sunken ship last 2 weeks ago.
We managed to see a house of Barracudas, scorpion fish, puffer fish and countless sea cucumbers.
Nudi Brunch as usual, were covered along the coral walls.

Next was navigation dive.
We did our navigation underwater at 8m of depth near ABC house reef.
We did our fin kicks counting, straight line navigation, square navigation and also natural navigation.

Third was deep dive.
We did our color comparison underwater and depth gauge comparison at 29m of depth.
Nothing much actually. Just some practical stuff.

Then we proceed to our fourth dive, Peak Performance Buoyancy.
We practiced our buoyancy at 13.3m and saw a group of big surgeon fish, barracudas,
spanish mackerals and guess what, TURTLE!!!

night dive.
The most happening yet scary dive I've ever experienced in Tioman.
I was so in doubt that I might just fail doing the night dive despite the fact that Im always
afraid to be in the dark. That was what I thought.
To my surprise, it was quite fun and secure if you follow exactly what your instructor says.
We were lucky to see shrimps, hermit crabs, cuttlefish, scorpion fish, sea cushion star,
star fish, butterfly fish, parrot fish, moray and blue spotted stingray.

We did 2 fun dives each for Bei and I.
We went to Pirate Reef and Renggis.
Didn't get the chance to see sharks yet. I guess I shall wait for Sipadan Island.
If that is even possible. I want to go there.
Hope everything goes well.

I shall stop here as there wouldn't be enough for me to share everything out here.
Perhaps the next post.

:)
